Election Projection

ELECTION PROJECTION

I am attempting to play prophet and write about the outcome of the election ON Election Day before the voting polls have opened. I know what you're thinking, "Larry, you actually never know what we're thinking (see past Perihelions for proof) so why would we even think that you could somehow predict this election?" Unlike prophets of old, I have a disadvantage in that by the time you finally get this newsletter, the election will be long over. The other distinct disadvantage is that I am NOT a prophet, or a psychotic, er, I mean psychic. OK, see if I can predict the outcome correctly. The winner will be (drum roll please) . . . Ralph Nader! No, seriously, I predict that . . . God is still on His throne and in control, that He still loves us unconditionally, still comforts those who mourn, still mends broken hearts, still offers forgiveness and asks us to forgive others, still encourages us to do good, seek peace and pursue justice, still wants us to put Him 1st above everything else and that He is still the Master Chess Player bringing good out of bad!

Some have asked me who I am going to vote for. In the last newsletter, I mentioned Rick Warren coming up and asking how I was doing, which turned out to be a short time before he did such a wonderful job on the TV forum interviewing both McCain and Obama. After the forum, I made up my mind who I was going to vote for . . . Rick Warren! Actually I have been telling people NOT to pray that Obama wins . . . and NOT to pray that McCain wins. But instead pray that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven! The answer to our country's situation is not the right government or president, but rather, GOD! The Bible says, "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, seek my face and turn from their evil ways, then will I hear from heaven, then will I forgive their sins and then will I heal their land." (II Chronicles 7:14) Notice it does NOT say if we just elect the right president or if the government gets its act together, things will be OK.

Quite honestly there are things I see in both parties that are contrary to God's word. So I encourage people to remember that God can accomplish His will no matter which candidate is elected . . . and knowing the fallibility of man, either of them will make mistakes. But God is the Master Chess Player and can accomplish His will no matter what has happened later today in the election or down the road as a result of the outcome. Our hope better be in God and not man.

Don't stop praying for the leaders after the election is over. The Bible urges us to (I Timothy 2:1-2) and even hints that God can change hearts to accomplish His purposes. "The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; He guides it wherever he pleases." (Proverbs 21:1 NLT) The other verse that comes to mind is Psalm 20:7. "Some trust in chariots and some in horses (some trust in government, some in leaders, some in might, some in money, some in a man dressed like a bat), but we trust in the name of the LORD our God."  Of course, I added the part in parenthesis.

I can't predict that everything is going to be perfect now or that our country will thrive. In fact, until Jesus does return I can predict that in this world we will have troubles, trials, tribulations, frustrations and sorrows - but don’t worry, Jesus has overcome the world! (John 6:33) So be bright lights in a dark world!

"Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, in this crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe." Phil 2:15
