Alphabet Prayer

Home | Back

A while back I was praying about something and asked God to help me be Content but not Complacent. I was reminded of something I read about praying alphabet prayers, where you go through the entire alphabet, letter by letter, praying for something like needs or for things you are thankful for, etc. I decided to try to write one out with every letter for a quality I desired as well as one I did not want. This took me a lot of time ….. way over a year ….. so please at least pretend that you are really impressed!

Lord help me to (be) …..

Authentic and not Apathetic

Bold yet not Braggadocios

Compassionate and not Callous

Devoted yet not Deceived

Empathetic and not Egotistical

Forgive those who have hurt me yet not Focus on my hurts

Genuine and not Gullible

Humble and not Hypocritical

Inspiring yet not Insincere

pursue Justice without being Judgmental

Kind and not Kruel (nor koncerned about spelling)

have Love for people over Lust for things

desire Ministry over Money (in other words, to be a Minister and not a Mathematician {my original plan})

Neighborly without being Naive

Obedient and not Offensive

Patient and not Prideful

Quiet before you and not Quarrelsome

Respectful and not Rude

Sympathetic and not Self-centered

Tan (just kidding) to Trust in Theos (Greek for God) over Trust in Things/Technology

Unselfish and never Ungrateful

Vigilant for God without being a Vigilante

Wait and Watch (and Watch my Weight/Waist) yet not Waste time or my life

Xerox of Jesus and not a Xylophone player

Yielding and not Yelling

Zeal for God and not Zen-like (thanks to Gideon)

By the way, I still know what you’re thinking ….. “There is NO way you know what I’m thinking right now, Larry.  Hey, wait a minute ….. how did you know that? Maybe you are too Zen-like!”

By the way (part 2), I know that was totally lame (I am not senile yet, though when I forget things I just tell people I am practicing up for Alzheimer's). I only used it because I have been saving it for years to use when I had no other “I know what you’re thinking” line to go along with an article.
